These clients contacted me to select fabrications and colours for their major renovation, and bring together their ideas in a way that expressed their lives whilst maintaining visual harmony throughout. The brief – Contemporary, Functional, Beautiful.
The results are a modern home with fascinating use of materials that link indoor and outdoor living whilst remaining harmonious and practical.
The timber front door connects to the major feature of the vaulted ceiling in Tasmanian Oak whilst the black walls of the entrance serve to frame the timber for maximum impact. Dominion at the internal peaks and black sculptural ceiling fans repeat this impact.
Original bricks were retained inside in the dining room where you first see the stunning two-sided Dekton clad central fireplace. The living room on the flip side enjoys the same fireplace that anchors the whole living area. The same material is used again for an outdoor fireplace on the back deck.
Past the oak cathedral ceiling the contemporary country kitchen sits warmly at the end of the open space. All colour selections for the living and dining remain warm with a light enveloping glow, from the Resene wall paint to silica-free Corian benchtops (both used throughout the home). Alongside the contemporary fabrications the square clay splashback tiles hark to farmhouses of the past whilst the aesthetic and material selections stay firmly forward-thinking.
The guest bathrooms are designed to express the client’s travels with their bedrooms to be decorated with client’s own items collected from around the world.
The client’s main bedroom in a soothing Resene green. Its double height ceiling leads to the sky-lit ensuite where floor-to-ceiling green marble tiles give another stunning wow moment in the house. The craftsmanship of the builder and his team is detailed and sharp throughout this beautiful, functional and contemporary country home.
